Pretty Place Star Gazers - Camp For Families Dealing w/ Down Syndrome 9/5 - 9/7

Greenville, SC – The sixth annual Pretty Place Star Gazers retreat at YMCA Camp Greenville will be held September 5-7. This retreat is for families who have a child with Down syndrome.

Located at YMCA Camp Greenville in Cedar Mountain, N.C., the program is a close cooperation between Camp and the Greenville County Recreation District. It consists of recreational activities for these families to enjoy -- activities such as canoeing, archery, hiking, fishing, arts and crafts, drama, and camp fires.

Susan Huter, the coordinator for Star Gazers, stresses “the encouragement from others who have walked in their shoes is invaluable. One parent recently shared that ‘my other children benefit by experiencing the fact that they are not the only ones who have to deal with a special needs sibling.’”

Thanks to generous support from the Bannon Foundation, the cost to the families is very moderate—approximately $30 per person. This covers meals, lodging and activities. Scholarships are also available.

For information, registration and directions, contact Susan Huter at YMCA Camp Greenville, call 864-836-3291 ext. 106 or email shuter@ymcagreenville.org.
